As an organization we support individuals such as Marvin Pineda who have proven to be exceptional in achieving their goals. Como organización apoyamos a individuos como Marvin Pineda quienes han demostrado ser excepcionales en el alcance de sus metas.  His story with Fundación Urbana began two years ago when he approached to ask for advice regarding his desire to change schools. He was looking to study Design. Being a younger brother of our contact in FESS(Emmanuel Foundation in South Sudan), we managed to help him make the transition through contacts in IEAL (Latin America Evangelical Institute). Fundación Urbana together with another donor extended a scholarship for that year at IEAL. At the end of that year Marvin surprised us with the news that, thanks to his effort, his high scores and positive leadership, the IEAL had granted him a full scholarship for the following year! Su historia con Fundación Urbana comienza hace dos años cuando se acercó para pedir asesoría para cambiarse de colegio. Buscaba estudiar Diseño. Siendo hermano menor de nuestro contacto en FESS(Fundación Emmanuel de Sudán del Sur), conseguimos, por medio de contactos en el Instituto Evangélico América Latina, pudimos ayudarlo a hacer la transición. Fundación Urbana junto con otro donante le extendió una beca para ese año en el IEAL. Al final de ese año Marvin nos sorprendió con la noticia que, gracias a su esfuerzo, sus altas calificaciones y liderazgo positivo, ¡el IEAL le había otorgado una Beca completa para el año siguiente!  When asked what else he needed support with, he shared his dream of studying English. This year he is already in his second semester at the IGA (Guatemalan-American Institute)with very good results and high marks. Following his excellent performance, he was invited to go as an exchange student to Pennsylvania, USA for the 2019-2020 school year. For the Foundation, it is an enormous blessing to be able to find beneficiaries such as Marvin who take full advantage of their opportunities, and partners who put their efforts to these altruistic acts of great impact in our society. Al preguntarle en qué más necesitaba apoyo nos compartió su ilusión de estudiar inglés. Este año está cursando ya su segundo semestre en el IGA con muy buenos resultados y altas calificaciones. A raíz de su excelente desempeño, fue invitado a ir como estudiante de intercambio a Pensylvania, USA para el año escolar 2019-2020. Para la Fundación es de extrema bendición poder encontrar a beneficiarios como Marvin quienes aprovechan sus oportunidades al máximo, y a socios quienes ponen su empeño para estas labores altruistas de gran impacto para nuestra sociedad. We leave you with the latest news that Marvin shares with us after being chosen to represent the students and accompany the IEAL Directors to receive the Quetzal Order(Established in 1936, it is bestowed by the Goverment of Guatemala. The award acknowledges officials of nations, organizations and other entities whose artistic, civic, humanitarian, or scientific works merit special recognition: "Good afternoon, I hope you are well. I wanted to tell you that yesterday was the award ceremony for the Order of Quetzal, it was in the auditorium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and I had the opportunity to meet the Vice President of the Republic and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs. Everything was very beautiful, I just couldn't take pictures because they didn't let me. At night it was dinner and we were sharing with the people who arrived at the ceremony and also with former students who have taken office in high ranking places with government in the country, we were also with Bellita and Junior Zapata and his family(2nd generation founders of IEAL). It was undoubtedly one of the best days of my life and I will never forget it and I always thank God for those opportunities that He gives me to be in acts like these and I also thank him for you and your families, because even here they have not stopped supporting me, beyond the opportunities of study that they have given me is the spiritual support you have given me throughout these 2 years, God will bless you greatly and I hope to also give you something in gratitude for all that have made." Les dejamos las últimas noticias que nos comparte Marvin luego de haber sido escogido para representar al alumnado y acompañar a los Directivos de IEAL a recibir la Órden del Quetzal: "Buenas tardes, espero estén bien. Les cuento que el día de ayer fue la ceremonia del galardón de la Orden del Quetzal, fue en el salón de actos del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y tuve la oportunidad de conocer al vicepresidente de la República y al vice ministro de Relaciones Exteriores. Estuvo muy bonito todo, solo que no pude tomar fotografías porque no me dejaron. En la noche fue la cena y estuvimos compartiendo con las personas que llegaron a la ceremonia y también con ex alumnos que han llegado a tener altos mandos en el país, también estuvimos con Bellita y Junior Zapata y su familia. Sin duda fue uno de los mejores días de mi vida y nunca lo voy a olvidar y siempre le agradezco a Dios por esas oportunidades que me da de estar en actos así como estos y también le agradezco a él por ustedes y sus familias, porque hasta aquí no me han dejado de apoyar, más allá de las oportunidades de estudio que me han permitido es el apoyo espiritual que me han dado a lo largo de estos 2 años, Dios las bendecirá grandemente y espero darles también algo en agradecimiento por todo lo que han hecho.”  "Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world." “Los pequeños actos, cuando son multiplicados por millones de personas, pueden transformar el mundo.”  Jocotán is a municipality of the department of Chiquimula, located in the sector of the Dry Corridor of the Republic of Guatemala. The area is called “Dry Corridor” because it’s a region that is very vulnerable to droughts. In some parts, there is no food security and there is a high degree of extreme poverty. Several censuses have been conducted in this region, and Jocotán is one of the municipalities in Guatemala with the highest rate of malnutrition. It is regrettable to see notes in the media describing the condition in which the inhabitants of this place live. Children suffer many diseases and cases of death due to malnutrition have been reported. Many factors contribute to this problem. One of many is the shortage of drinking water. Jocotán es un municipio del departamento de Chiquimula, localizado en el sector del Corredor Seco de la República de Guatemala. Se denomina a esta región “Corredor Seco” porque es muy vulnerable a las sequías, en algunas partes no cuenta con seguridad alimentaria y tiene un alto grado de pobreza extrema. Se han realizado varios censos en la región, y Jocotán es uno de los municipios en Guatemala con mayor índice de desnutrición. La condición en la que viven los pobladores del lugar es lamentable, tal como lo testifican las notas de los medios de comunicación. Los niños sufren de muchas enfermedades y hay muchos reportes de muerte infantil por desnutrición. Muchos factores contribuyen a esta problemática. Uno de tantos es la escasez de agua potable.  Fundación Urbana conducts round tables to encourage alliances between like foundations. In April of this year, Fundación Emmanuel and InspiraGuate met at one of these round tables and formed an alliance to bring drinking water to this area in such dire need of help. We share a part of the report and photographs provided by Dr. Gregorio Vásquez, of Fundación Emmanuel. Fundación Urbana realiza mesas redondas para propiciar alianzas entre fundaciones afines. En abril de este año Fundación Emmanuel e InspiraGuate formaron una alianza y llevaron agua potable a este municipio tan necesitado de ayuda. The Inspira Guate Foundation carried out the management and donation of the ecofiltros for the neglected communities of the Chortí area. The lack of safe and potable water in rural communities is anecessity, and we are confident that with the implementation of this method of filtering water for human consumption will decrease the cases of diseases transmitted by water and food ... In April of the year, 62 ecofiltros were delivered to 10 communities specifically to the families that were enrolled in the nutrition program and in May, the rest were distributed to the families that were missing. On this second occasion 48 ecofiltros were delivered to the missing families in the list " “…La fundación Inspira Guate (llevó) a cabo la gestión y donación de los ecofiltros para las comunidades postergadas del área Chortí. La carencia de agua potable y segura en las comunidades rurales es una necesidad, y estamos seguros de que con la implementación de este método de filtración de agua para consumo humano se disminuirá los casos de enfermedades transmitidas por agua y alimentos… En abril del año, se hizo entrega de 62 ecofiltros a 10 comunidades específicamente a las familias que estaban inscritas al programa de nutrición y en el mes de mayo se continuó distribuyendo los restantes a las familias que faltaban. En esta segunda ocasión se entregaron 48 ecofiltros a las familias faltantes en el listado.”  For us it is very satisfying to know that in one or many ways we continue to contribute to the welfare of our population. That little by little we can help many people who go through so many hardchips.
